THE 23rd ANNUAL TEXAS MUSHROOM FESTIVAL WILL BE HELD ON OCTOBER 19TH, 2024
Join us in celebrating the rich culture and vibrant community of Madisonville, Texas through our annual Texas Mushroom Festival. This citywide event is designed to bring together citizens, businesses, government, educational institutions, and civic organizations, fostering a strong sense of unity and pride. Experience a day filled with fun, food, and festivities, as we highlight the unique charm and spirit of Madisonville. Together, we create lasting memories and strengthen the bonds that make our community exceptional.
Madisonville had long hosted an annual Saturday on the Square. In 2002, a lone tent stood in the parking lot of The Woodbine Hotel, now Woodbine Inn and Restaurant, where Chef Reinhard Warmuth spent the day cooking up a smorgasbord of mushroom concoctions.
The Texas Mushroom Festival has grown into an event that attracts thousands of visitors to Madisonville each year.
From very humble beginnings, the first event had exactly one tent, one entertainer, 10 T-shirts, and only a sprinkling of vendor booths. Technically it was a rain-out, but the seed for a wonderful future was planted that day.
To some extent, the rain itself may have helped build the momentum of the Texas Mushroom Festival, as it re-directed many of those who braved the weather to the cooking tent that would expand 10-fold over the 23 years.
Why mushrooms? Madisonville is The Mushroom Capital of Texas because we are very lucky to have Monterey Mushrooms as a business in town and a community property. Approximately 600,000 pounds of mushrooms are produced each week at the Monterey facility. They have been a headlining sponsor for as long as we can remember. Their famous mushroom tacos are always a major hit. This year they will be hosting a mushroom picking contest at designated times of the day.
The festival has continued to expand over the years to include many of the diverse attractions that exist today. One of the key elements of the festival is that the events appeal to a range of personal interests and ages, aside from just mushrooms and shopping.
The day begins with the Shiitake 5K. Throughout the day, events such as the Auto Showcase, Texas Wine and Craft Beer tastings, live music, Kids Zone, Photo Contest, Silent Auction along with lots and lots of vendors highlight the Festival from 10 am until 5 pm in Downtown Madisonville. A silent auction will be held in the beautifully refurbished Woodbine Inn and Restaurant.
The Mushroom Festival gives us the opportunity to highlight our area from our restaurants to our businesses, to our schools, to our quaint community. We hope that our visitors enjoy their time at the Annual Texas Mushroom Festival and consider visiting Madisonville again in the future.
